NewJeans' Ditto has been selected as one of the "Best Songs of the 2020s" by the U.S. music magazine Paste.
Recently, Paste released its list of The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far, placing Ditto, a track from NewJeans' single album OMG, at No. 23. The list features works by global pop stars such as Billie Eilish, SZA, Fiona Apple, and The 1975, with Ditto being the only K-pop song on the list.
Paste praised NewJeans and Ditto, stating, "When thinking about the state of K-pop in the 2020s, no group has risen as quickly as NewJeans, and Ditto is one of the best tracks." The magazine further explained that "NewJeans has boldly moved away from the flashy EDM and overly sweet maximalism of K-pop, offering a groovier and more elegant future." It called Ditto a standout track that perfectly showcases NewJeans' explosive stardom and their new approach to the genre.
Ditto, released on December 19, 2022, features a warm melody and highlights the group's soothing vocals. The song helped NewJeans break into both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Top 100 charts just six months after their debut. In South Korea, Ditto dominated, remaining at No. 1 on Melon's daily chart for 99 consecutive days and topping the weekly chart for 14 straight weeks, ultimately claiming the No. 1 spot on the 2023 annual chart.
Additionally, in Paste's "The 100 Greatest EPs of All Time," published last month, NewJeans' second EP Get Up was ranked 52nd.
