The "2024 MAMA Awards," one of K-pop's most prestigious global music award ceremonies, is making its debut in the United States, the world's largest music market. On October 29, a media day event was held at the CJ ENM Center in Seoul, where key organizers shared the plans for this year's event, marking the 25th anniversary of the MAMA Awards.
No Mirae from CJ ENM's Media Art Creation team highlighted that the 2024 MAMA will feature a special 360-degree surround stage, a unique experience exclusive to the MAMA Awards. She also teased exciting performances, including a collaboration between PLAVE and Lee Young Ji, and a special band performance featuring members from ENHYPEN, TXT (Tomorrow X Together), and ZEROBASEONE.
The members will form a band and perform a song with a time-traveling concept, and fans can look forward to seeing which member plays which instrument.
Another highlight will be TXT's Yeonjun collaborating with a robot in a special performance, while (G)I-DLE will showcase an even bigger "mega stage" than last year's performance. Additional stages, such as the "Super Stage," "Wonder Stage," and "Cinematic Stage," will also be featured.
This year, MAMA has introduced the "MAMA Superfan" for the first time. Fans have played a key role in selecting the nominees for the "Fans' Choice" category through 100% fan voting. Over 100,000 fans applied to become "superfans" during the summer, with the first round of voting conducted through Mnet Plus. The second round will begin on November 1, and the results will be revealed at the awards ceremony on November 22.
The MAMA Awards, which began as the Mnet "Video Music Awards" in 1999, was rebranded as the "Mnet Asian Music Awards" in 2009, marking the first Asian music awards in Korea. In 2022, it was renamed the "MAMA Awards." Over the past 25 years, it has continuously evolved alongside the growth of Korea's music industry.
The 2024 MAMA Awards will be held in Los Angeles at the Dolby Theatre on November 21, followed by events in Japan at the Kyocera Dome Osaka on November 22 and 23. The ceremony will be broadcast live globally through Mnet, the Mnet K-POP YouTube channel, and Mnet TV.
