BTS's Jin Dominates Japan with 'Happy', Setting K-Pop Solo Records on Oricon Charts
BTS's Jin has showcased his immense global popularity with his first solo album, Happy, making waves in the Japanese music market.
On November 20, Oricon Chart revealed that Jin's solo album Happy, released on November 15, had taken the top spot on the Weekly Digital Album Ranking (November 11–17). Remarkably, this was achieved with just three days of sales data.
Happy recorded 219,241 sales in its first week in Japan, placing it third among all K-pop solo artists for first-week album sales on the Oricon Chart. Additionally, the album became the highest first-day seller among K-pop solo albums on Oricon this year. Alongside the album, pre-released track I'll Be There and title track Running Wild both debuted at the top of Oricon charts upon their release.
On November 26, Jin released Until I Reach You (feat. Taka), a song from the album featuring Taka, the vocalist of Japanese band ONE OK ROCK. This track also claimed the number one spot on the Oricon Daily Digital Singles Chart (as of November 26). With five songs topping Oricon's Daily Digital Singles Chart, Jin now holds the second-highest record for a Korean or K-pop artist on this chart.
The title track Running Wild achieved further success by topping Spotify Japan's Daily Top Songs Chart on November 21. The song was streamed 522,000 times in a single day, surpassing BTS's Butter (503,930 streams) to set the record for the highest single-day streams for a K-pop artist on Spotify Japan.
