BTS Jimin, Selected as '2024's Most Popular Korean Male Idol' by Japanese Fans for the Second Consecutive Year


BTS's Jimin has been crowned as the most popular Korean male idol of 2024 by Japanese fans, showcasing his unwavering popularity.


Jimin secured the top spot in a survey titled "2024 Year-End Recap! Most Popular Korean Male Idol," conducted by the Japanese Hallyu media outlet Danmee, with a total of 2,508 votes. This marks his second consecutive year at number one, following his win in 2023, solidifying his immense popularity in Japan.


Previously, Jimin also took first place in Danmee’s "November K-Pop Male Idol Popularity Contest," receiving 3,335 votes. This victory contributed to his record of being ranked first for 21 consecutive months, a remarkable achievement. The survey aims to reflect the voices of K-pop fans through strict voting rules, allowing one vote per person. The nominees were selected based on their activity index in Korea, brand reputation index (provided by BRAND REPUTATION INDEX), monthly mentions on X (formerly Twitter), and Danmee-related article viewership, narrowing the field to 28 prominent male K-pop idols.


Jimin's streak of 21 consecutive months as the top choice in Japan is further complemented by his ongoing success on music charts. The title track "Who" from his second album MUSE recently ranked 70th on the January 8th Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, marking 23 consecutive weeks on the chart. Additionally, Jimin holds the 53rd spot on Billboard Japan's "Artist 100" chart, 47th on the streaming chart, and 42nd on the album chart, underscoring his exceptional popularity.


Meanwhile, Jimin's solo exhibition, "The Truth Untold: Fanne Gruit IN JAPAN," showcasing his solo albums, stage outfits, props, trophies, and other highlights, has been drawing a large audience since its launch on January 10 in Tokyo. The exhibition has garnered significant attention, including exclusive coverage by Japan's Fuji TV, further emphasizing Jimin's widespread appeal.
