EXO’s Kai to Explore New Worlds with Afrobeats in New Song and Performance
EXO member Kai is set to unveil a new world of music and performance with his upcoming release, incorporating the Afrobeats genre.
The title track “Wait On Me” from Kai’s new mini-album, set to be released on April 21st at 6 PM, is an Afrobeats song that captures the beauty of waiting in its lyrics. It features restrained groove percussion and synth string sounds that build tension. Notably, the performance for “Wait On Me” includes captivating Afrobeats dance moves that align with the song’s genre, along with a point choreography that intuitively expresses the lyrics “Wait” using the palms and fingers, and a dance break showcasing explosive power and three-dimensional group choreography.
World-renowned choreographer Shay Latukolan, along with choreographers Badri and J-Rick, who have previously collaborated with Kai, participated in the creation of the performance. The stage will feature 10 dancers joining Kai to complete a synchronized “calgunmu” (sharp group dance) that will deliver an exhilarating experience.
Kai will first unveil the “Wait On Me” stage at his album showcase on April 21st at 8 PM at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, which will also be live-streamed on YouTube and the Weverse EXO channel. He is expected to captivate fans with a performance worthy of his reputation as a “world-class performer.”
Meanwhile, EXO, the group to which Kai belongs, celebrated their 13th debut anniversary on April 8th with a live broadcast titled “EXO : 13IRTHDAY HOME PARTY” on YouTube, TikTok, and the Weverse EXO channel, starting at 8 PM.
