South Korean R&B singer Crush has reimagined a timeless classic in honor of jazz icon Chet Baker.
According to his agency P Nation, a special track titled “Everything Happens to Me”, featuring Crush, was released at midnight on May 9 via major online music platforms. The song is part of “Chet Baker Re:imagined”, a tribute album commemorating the 70th anniversary of Baker’s seminal release Chet Baker Sings. The project brings together artists from around the world to celebrate the legacy of the late jazz legend. By contributing to the album alongside prominent global musicians, Crush adds significant meaning to this international homage.
A longtime admirer of Chet Baker, Crush has frequently cited the American jazz musician as a major musical influence. In 2018, he visited Baker’s gravesite during the Mnet program “Fan’s Imagination Becomes Reality”, leaving behind a bouquet of flowers and a copy of his own album. More recently, during a fan meeting earlier this year, he performed a heartfelt cover of “Everything Happens to Me”, demonstrating his enduring admiration.
On his participation in the album, Crush shared,
“It was a tremendous honor to reinterpret the music of Chet Baker, whom I have deeply respected for so long. I tried to infuse my own emotion and interpretation into ‘Everything Happens to Me’, a song full of subtle and restrained feeling. I hope this version resonates warmly with everyone who loves Chet Baker’s music.”
By breathing new life into a beloved classic with his distinctive vocal color, Crush has showcased what it means to be a “successful fan.” Known for his soulful sound and emotional depth, the artist continues to captivate listeners and expand his unique musical universe. Anticipation is high for his next move.
