Jo Jung-suk, known as the king of summer box office hits, is set to return with Zombie Daughter, undergoing extreme training in the name of fatherly love.
Opening on July 30, Zombie Daughter is expected to mark another peak in Jo Jung-suk’s acting career. He previously solidified his reputation as a "trustworthy actor" with his performance as the unemployed Yong-nam in EXIT, delivering a mix of laughter, tears, and emotion. His innate stunt skills and sharp instincts shaped the character of Yong-nam, drawing in 9.42 million viewers during the summer of 2019.
With the film Pilot, Jo further cemented his status not only as a trusted actor but as an irreplaceable box office star. His deep portrayal of the character’s emotional narrative received rave reviews. Thanks to his meticulous emotional acting and physically demanding action scenes, Pilot quickly broke even and ranked 5th among Korean box office hits in 2024. He went on to win Best Actor at the 11th Korean Film Producers Association Awards and the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards (Film Division).
Now, anticipation is rising among fans awaiting “Jo Jung-suk’s summer” once again. In Zombie Daughter, Jo is set to captivate audiences by taking on the role of a doting father who embarks on a top-secret training mission to protect the last remaining zombie—his own daughter. As a real-life “daughter fool” himself, Jo portrays ‘Jung-hwan’, a father who goes to any length for his child, showcasing his seasoned acting and delicate emotional expression to vividly portray the joys and sorrows of the character.
At a previous production briefing, director Pil Gam-seong, who helmed Zombie Daughter, said, “From the very beginning of the scriptwriting process, I envisioned Jo Jung-suk for the role of ‘Jung-hwan.’ He transitions effortlessly between comedy and tragedy, and his sense of rhythm and quick-wittedness are second to none.”
All eyes are now on Jo Jung-suk to see what fresh and surprising side he will unveil in Zombie Daughter.
The film opens in theaters on July 30.
