The “young creator crew” CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhun, Sunghyun, and Gunho) have revealed the behind-the-scenes story of their co-created music video, drawing attention.
On August 27 at 9 PM, the group uploaded a commentary video for their debut album title track “What You Want” on their official YouTube channel. The video delves into both the official music video and the self-produced version that served as its prototype. The five members explained that they personally handled the planning, filming, and editing of their self-made MV. “If someone keeps asking, ‘What do you want?,’ wouldn’t that feel like pressure? We wanted to capture the feeling of escaping that tension. That’s how the idea of ‘dreams,’ as an escape from daily life, was born,” they explained of the project’s concept.
CORTIS shared their approach to collaborative creation: “We just throw out ideas first. Even things that seem absurd are added to the plan, and then we discuss together and refine them.” They added, “When producing videos, we don’t assign roles—we all work together. Even during filming, we only set the general framework without fixing specific angles. We tried to express everything sensibly, the way we felt in the moment,” highlighting their free-spirited mindset.
On how their self-made video became the foundation of the official MV, they commented, “We never expected that a video we shot simply because we enjoyed it would evolve into the official music video. The use of ‘dreams’ in the directing, along with many elements from the self-produced video, were well realized.” They further explained, “The official MV was shot in the desert, chosen as a symbolic location to reflect the key theme of ‘pressure’ from the original idea.”
