(G)I-DLE member Yuqi teamed up with Miyeon for her first solo single activities.
On September 16, Yuqi appeared on Miyeon’s web variety show “Miyeonzip MIYEON” to share the production process of her debut single “Motivation.” Miyeon warmly welcomed her, saying, “I’m always so excited for Yuqi’s solo. She’s one of the people I’ve seen grow the most.”
Yuqi explained, “The title track ‘M.O.’ is short for ‘Motivation.’ It’s a hip-hop, old-school song with intense emotions,” and performed a live stage of the track.
She added, “I hope people think of Yuqi when they think of female idols doing old-school in this era. I also composed, wrote, and produced this album myself. The track ‘Apda’ (‘It Hurts’) was created during a time I was really into romance films, capturing late-night emotions. I wrote the lyrics in consultation with the MV director to fit the music video we wanted to shoot.”
A touching story behind Yuqi’s tearful acting in the “Apda” music video was also revealed. She shared, “I’ve never acted seriously before, so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to cry. Originally, I was supposed to read from a blank sheet of paper, but when filming started, it had been replaced with a letter from my mom. My manager said they had been secretly preparing it for a month. I cried so much. I’m really grateful.”
Later, Yuqi captured attention by performing a duet with Miyeon, singing her March digital single “Radio (Dum-Dum)” and Bruno Mars’ “Treasure.”
Following the release of her first single “Motivation,” Yuqi will meet fans through various music shows, starting with Mnet’s M Countdown on September 18.
