The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of BIGBANG’s debut (G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung). Debuting in 2006 as a five-member group, BIGBANG dominated the 2nd-generation K-pop scene with countless hit songs and an unparalleled presence, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Today, despite being a trio, they remain virtually the only active 2nd-generation idol group that hasn’t officially disbanded.

BIGBANG has chosen the 2026 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in April as the stage for their 20th anniversary coronation. Known as the largest music festival in the United States, Coachella is a global platform for top-tier artists. The group was previously included in the 2020 lineup as a four-member act (with T.O.P) before the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic—a disappointment that left both fans and the members yearning for another chance.

This time, BIGBANG plans to use their Coachella performance to celebrate two decades of music and deliver a global-scale performance that encapsulates their musical legacy—a comeback anticipated to be legendary among fans worldwide.

This year’s Coachella lineup features Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and Karol G as headliners, with additional acts such as The xx, Disclosure, The Strokes, Giveon, Young Thug, and Kaskade. From the K-pop scene, Taemin and Cats Eye are also joining the bill, making the festival even more noteworthy for Korean music fans.

Adding to the significance, YG Entertainment, BIGBANG’s former agency and their longtime home, has reportedly given its full support for the group’s Coachella participation—formally granting permission for the use of the group name “BIGBANG.” This gesture symbolizes reconciliation and respect for the group’s legacy.

Recognized as one of the most iconic and influential K-pop acts of all time, BIGBANG reigned throughout the 2000s and 2010s. Following the mega-hit “Lies”, they released a string of beloved tracks including “Last Farewell,” “Haru Haru,” “Sunset Glow,” “Tonight,” “Blue,” “Monster,” “Fantastic Baby,” “Loser,” “Bae Bae,” “Bang Bang Bang,” “Let’s Not Fall in Love,” and “If You.”

With 7 single albums, 5 mini albums, and 2 full-length albums, BIGBANG has continuously evolved musically, earning the title of “idol artists.” Early on, members G-Dragon and Taeyang proved their strength as singer-songwriters, while T.O.P commanded attention as the charismatic main rapper. Daesung and Seungri further enriched the group’s profile through their variety show appeal and entertainment presence—making BIGBANG a cultural force that transcended the music industry.
