South Korean film director Kim Ki-duk has died from COVID-19 complications in Latvia.
According to News 1 on the 12th, director Kim's family was unable to move to Latvia due to concerns about the spread of Corona 19, so the funeral procedure was assigned to a local embassy in Latvia. Accordingly, director Ki-deok Kim's body was cremated in Latvia, and the remains were brought into Korea.

The South Korean embassy in the country also confirmed that a Korean man in his 50s had died while being treated for COVID-19.

The embassy said the family has been notified of the death and it is providing consular support to help with funeral procedures.

Kim was the only Korean director to win awards at the world's three major film festivals, Cannes, Venice, and Berlin, and was evaluated as a 'master' in the domestic and international film industry. However, after being engulfed in the so-called 'Me Too controversy' - allegations of sexual misconduct - in 2018, he has kept a low profile at abroad.
