Multiplex Megabox will increase the movie ticket price by 1,000 won from July 5.

This follows on from the announcement of Lotte Cinema on the 7th that it will also raise the movie fee by 1,000 won from July 1.
At Megabox, the movie admission fee will be changed to 13,000 won on weekdays and 14,000 won on weekends, based on 2D general movie adults. The target audiences are adult, youth, and child fares, and screenings such as general theaters, Comfort theaters, MX theaters, and Dolby Cinema. The Boutique Suite, Private and Balcony are excluded from this increase. In addition, the preferential rate applied to persons of national merit, the disabled, senior citizens over 65 years of age, preschoolers, police and firefighters, and those who have completed vaccinations will maintain the existing system.
Meanwhile, Megabox complained that the total number of theater audiences in 2020 decreased by 74% compared to the previous year due to the aftermath of COVID 19, and the number of audiences in the first quarter of 2021 decreased by 85.2% compared to the same period of 2019. 
Subsequently, the film industry has continued to take self-rescue measures, such as providing a release subsidy to revitalize the stagnant domestic film industry, encouraging the release of new films, returning employee salaries for business normalization, implementing unpaid leave, reducing operating hours, and closing some branches.
