Girl group BLACKPINK is finally back. As it is the return of YG's representative artist and the best female group, BLACKPINK is expected to make a strong swirl in the global music market in the second half of 2022.
According to YG Entertainment on the 6th, BLACKPINK is currently in the final stages of recording a new album. They plan to start filming a music video in July and heat up this summer with the release of a new song in August.
YG said, "A lot of BLACKPINK-like music has been prepared for a long time. BLACKPINK will go on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year along with their comeback to expand their rapport with fans around the world. And large-scale projects worthy of that status will continue.”
BLACKPINK's comeback as a full group is the first in about a year and 10 months. Before the release of their first full-length album 'THE ALBUM' in 2020, Blackpink released a pre-release title (How You Like That) and a special collaboration sound source (Ice Cream) one after another, leading to a streak in popularity.
At that time, despite the restrictions on their activities due to the spread of Corona 19, BLACKPINK drew an explosive response from global fans with only music and music videos, and as a result, most of the records they set for the first, highest, and most of a girl group were broken.
In addition, BLACKPINK's 1st full-length album, which featured 'Lovesick Girls' as the title song, sold over 1.4 million copies, becoming the first K-pop girl group to become the first million-seller (based on Hanteo/Gaon charts). The album caused a sensation so much that it reached number two on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Official Chart, the two largest pop markets in the world.
The solo albums of Rosé and Lisa, released in 2021, also hit major global charts, setting various new records comparable to those of Black Pink's 1st full-length album. It made me realize the status and presence of Blackpink, which is gradually increasing its ripple effect in the mainstream pop market beyond Korea and Asia.
In the meantime, the number of subscribers to Blackpink's YouTube channel has grown to over 75 million. Among all male and female artists around the world, the group is ranked number one in terms of the number of subscribers. The total number of Instagram followers of the group and each member is over 318 million.
