On the morning of the 30th, the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) held the annual general meeting of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Attendees included KOMCA Chairman Choo Ga-yeol, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon, SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man, actor Yoo Ji-tae, who is a full member of the Korean Film Directors' Association, singer and National Assembly member of the Democratic Innovation Party Kim Jae-won (Ria), CISAC Vice President Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde, APRA President Jenny Morris, and SACM Vice President Arturo Marques. Secretary General Gadi Oron stated, "Western countries are now dominated by Korean content. Korean content is enjoying immense popularity, spreading like wildfire. The drama 'Squid Game' has recorded the highest viewership on Netflix, and 'Gangnam Style' reached 1 billion views. BTS and BLACKPINK have topped charts and recorded best-selling albums."
He added, "This is all the result of efforts in the creative sector. Global figures have been achieved overnight. In 2020, BTS's 'Dynamite' generated $140,000 (approximately 190 million KRW) in revenue for the Korean economy and created jobs. This demonstrates the power of a single song. It has economic power."
He continued, "Korea is growing based on its strong culture. This has happened in a short period. KOMCA has quickly taken a significant position within CISAC."
